Lesson Study in South East Kent, England UK
This site has been made primarily to inform, celebrate, and offer links to those who are interested in the Collaborative Teaching Practice (sometimes also called Lesson Study) and the History of Mathematics and how it can be used in the everyday teaching.
The project described throughout this site was supported by the National Centre for the Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics and the British Society for the History of Mathematics, who helped us with funding to organise and conduct a two-year long Lesson Study project. The project theme’s and focus was the introduction of the history of mathematics in everyday teaching, and we aimed to do this across Key Stages 2 (upper primary) and 3 (lower secondary). See the paper describing the project in full, which was presented at the ICME11 in Monterrey, Mexico, July 2008.
You can also see the various pages on this site like the project brief, videos, and download a poster about the project, setting out how Lesson Study can be used as a model of Continuing Professional Development.
If you are interested and want to take this further, good idea to investigate how people around the world adopted Lesson Study suited to their contexts. To start, you may want to see APEC wiki on Lesson Study, and the University of Plymouth website on Collaborative Teaching Practice.
