Symmetry or cemetery?
This is a film about several lessons, all in the same cycle of introducing the history of mathematics in the teaching of geometry to Key Stage 3 kids.
First lesson, on the history of trigonometry was delivered to the low achieving year 9 students (13-14 year olds) by Sue Corlett.
Second, third and fourth lessons were on symmetry to low and middle achievers in year 7 (11-12 year olds). If you watch this part of the film you will discover why it got the title that it did! Teachers were Siobhan Saunders, Tom Connolly Jnr, and Paul McCarter.
The lesson in which Geometer’s Sketchpad was used was delivered to high set of year 8 students, and the last lesson on volume was delivered to another group of mixed ability level year 8 students. Teachers were Snezana Lawrence and James Keyes.
At the end of the tape you will see some follow up discussion on the cycle of lessons.
